There are lots of places to get your glass window fixed (AutoGlass, Giant Glass, etc).

As far as where it came from... anywhere is the best answer. A chipped rock from a tractor trailer truck could ping your window... then over time hot/cold causes the crack to grow. Sometimes if the crack is smaller than an inch, insurance will pay for a seal to be put on it at no cost.

Because your crack is already 6+ inches long, you will need a window replacement. This will cost you (and your insurance a total of about $300). If you have good coverage on your car, insurance will likely pay half or so of this expense. Leaving you with a bill around $100-150.

Having a new windsheild is REALLY nice. Your wipers will work better, you'll see things clearly, and in hind sight you'll probably appreciate the $100 investment. Plus you need the crack repaired if you want your car to pass inspection.

To prevent the crack from growing (in the mean time) try not to use your front window defroster. That blast of warm air on cold glass with only encourage the crack to grow.

Best of luck!

liquid resin will help prevent the crack from growing or getting legs, but I would check with my insurance company to discuss numbers. In some states, it is illegal to drive with cracked or broken windshield so your insurance company may be able to help you out. Windshields for that car run about 200-400 installed.

There is not much you can do to stop the crack getting bigger. The cost of the window and replacement would be less than the deductible on your insurance in most cases. Warranty is not going to cover it either.

Insurance should help you. The cost is about 300 installed. You can have it injected by a glass person to keep it from getting worse. When it's cold out and you turn on your heat, it can cause the crack to get worse.

There are a few things that could cause the crack. Look very close at the crack, if you see any type of chip no matter how small, it was caused by a rock while driving. You may have had a small stone chip and it did not break right away. Temperature changes cause the chip to crack in some cases. Another common reason is Rust on the pinch weld. It normally happens when the windshield has been replaced and the scratches on the pinch weld were not covered with primer and Urethane. Being a 2005 rust is not real probable. Sometimes glass just stress cracks for no apparent reason. I have put in new windshields and had them crack the next day. Just a defect in the glass. If after replacement it happens again, you may want to find out if the car has ever been wrecked. If a body shop didn’t repair the roof, or "a" pillars correctly it can cause a stress crack. It should cost you under $300 to get it replaced. You insurance may cover some of the cost, however you will have to pay any Comp. Deductible you have. Go to a reputable Auto Glass Company and talk to them. Sometimes they can waive your deductible. It doesn’t hurt to ask. Remember also, that cheaper is not always better. Make sure you get OEM replacement glass. Some after market glass has fit issues and are prone to leaks. The glass cannot be fixed no matter what anyone tells you. So-called "Crack" repairs very rarely ever work and most Techs won’t even try it. It is illegal to drive with a broken windshield so be careful, the cops will pull you over for it and write you a fix it ticket.

Call several auto repair shops locally until you find one that does classic car restoration. Many classic cars need new glass that is no longer made. They work with glass replacement shops that can "custom cut" glass to fit.

While plexiglass might fit once cut it is not as safe as genuine auto safety glass.
